The challenges we are addressing

Right now, the textile sector needs to change, and fast. The “take-make-dispose” cycle leaks unfathomable amounts of waste and is rapidly increasing the consumption of new resources to feed linear business models.

Municipalities, business and recycling infrastructure actors are prepared and asking for change, but they face huge challenges; they need insight and transparency. We cannot optimize the textile lifecycle if we cannot see it. Fragmented data flows across the industry make this nearly impossible.

At TEXroad, we show you what textiles are flowing, where they’ve been, where they’re going and where you can intervene to maximize value and minimize waste. With TEXroad, data doesn’t just exist — it drives action.

How it started

TEXroad began as a collaboration between Reverse Resources and REvolve Waste. We then assembled the TEXroad team who provided their time, insights and expertise during our time within the Accelerate Estonia program.

Today the TEXroad Foundation is incorporated as a Dutch Stichting and acts as a neutral party to develop standardised data flows for circular business and policy.

Frequently asked questions

Are you a traceability software provider?

No. In our platform, the Data Hub, we harmonize diverse data sources and make them actionable, engaging, and interactive. This includes visualizing materials flows, which may come or be sent to traceability software.

What exactly is TEXroad Data Hub and how does it work?

The TEXroad Data Hub is our software platform where users access and manage their textile reporting and data in one place. The exact setup depends on your role — whether you represent a municipality, company, or project. Get in touch for a demonstration tailored to your needs.

Is TEXroad a consultancy?

No. We have a digital platform and related services to help companies, the public sector, and projects take a data-driven approach to textile management. We stay focused on making the data useful and helping our partners put it into action.

What type of data do you work with?

We help collect and report data to answer 5 big questions: what is it, where is it, who has it, how much is there, and where is it going? This usually involves information about materials quantities, characteristics, locations, and flows.

Which countries do you work in?

We focus on Europe, but our approach and tools can be applied anywhere in the world.

Isn’t textile data already available? Don’t we already know how much can be recycled?

Numerous available reports and figures give that impression, but the reality is these contain estimates that must be developed from poor quality raw data and a lot of assumptions. Recyclability is largely determined by fiber composition and contamination, and there is almost no available data about this.

How much textile is out there in circulation?

No one really knows for sure. Thanks to Textile Exchange, the number of tonnes of textile fiber produced annually is well known, and it is possible to estimate how much of this becomes finished apparel and household textiles. There is little available data to accurately estimate how this is distributed globally, how much stays circulating, what cycles out, and how long this takes.

Do you make standards?

We get the ball rolling by co-developing minimum data requirements with other experts, and our focus is on the post-consumer value chain where standards don’t exist yet. The result is basic data models that address these gaps, which we feed into standards-making pipelines.
